Sewell Shutters was established in 1989, and is owned and operated by Doug and Dora Sewell.
Doug is a retired chaplain (LTC) in US Army Reserve and has 25 years of combined military service. Doug was in active duty in United States Air Force for 6 1/2 years, during which time he was stationed at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT, and with 25th Infantry Division, in Honolulu, HI. While enlisted in the military, Doug earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Doug also earned a Master of Divinity degree at Liberty Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, VA.
In 1984, Doug accepted his first position as a pastor at a church in Sulphur Springs, TX. In an effort to support his family, Doug began working for a custom shutter company and learned the trade over the next several years. In 1989, Doug and his family moved back to Dallas and opened Sewell Shutters. Dora worked as a bookkeeper for CPA firm before joining Doug at Sewell Shutters in 1995.
Since 1989, Sewell Shutters has completed over 5,800 custom shutter orders.
Twenty-five full-time employees run their 15,000 square foot production factory, which is one of the largest in North Texas. Over
125 designers and 25 custom builders regularly use Sewell Shutters for their custom window-treatment needs.
Doug and Dora have been married for 28 years and have three daughters, who work at Sewell Shutters each summer
and one granddaughter.
